1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Who is this guy?

Discussion in 'Tips, Tricks & Talk' started by Aaron Venture, Jun 17, 2020.

  1. So I ran into this piece

And it clearly says "Brian Shyer". When you look up the album on Spotify, Pandora, Deezer it all throws the same name. All music recognition apps point to this exact recording as well, no matter where in the piece you record your 5 seconds. However, the name itself only returns this piece on this album.

PPL search returns "RICHARD KAUFMAN AND THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA" (conductor and the orchestra), as it does for all the pieces on this album.

Is it an alias? Because you don't just drop a piece like this and disappear into the fucking mist, right? There are serious chops on display here.

So who is this guy? Is this perhaps a reharm of some other piece/theme I'm not recognizing?

  2. Man he sure does. No guesses from anyone?

  3. I contacted the A&R manager of Varèse Sarabande. I guessed they might know more. I'll let you know once i know more! IF it is a reharm then they probably were not allowed to credit this Bryan as the composer.

  4. He is just like us: an average guy trying to make it in life doing his craft.

No, he does not have any big time credits. He lives in Claremont California.

  5. Aaron Venture and Doug Gibson like this.
  6. I like this piece.

  7. Your first page reminded me of a crack whore I once knew on Sunset Blvd. Ha!

Can't you decrease the size of the staves to allow for more space?

My bad sense of humor aside: way to go on getting this transcription started. Bravo! Keep going !!

  8. "Transcribing is like making sausage. It's better not to see it being done." I was thinking sex was like that, but that's not really true is it?

Yes, it could use better staffal distancing. I'll work the score layout parameters when I return to the transcribe.

  9. Didn't you say somewhere you hear a little mini Doug on your shoulders when you work? You'll have to beat his ass.

    Rohann van Rensburg likes this.
  10. Funny, I seem to have that too. More encouraging about my work but also more honest and with far more comparisons to the streets of LA/NY.

  11. This is great! Reminds me a lot of the Williams arrangements he did with the Boston Pops.

  12. I'd kill to have chops like that. And his sense of harmony is delicious - pure golden age jazziness.

  13. What beautiful work, thanks for the introduction!

  14. This album is fantastic, thanks for sharing Aaron.
