1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Composition for an album, feedback appreciated!

  1. I like the progression personally, but I value your feedback here! Let me know what you think

  2. Hi welcome. Nice picture of an Owl ! How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop ?

Your piece sounds smart yet confused.

Stylistically - and this might not matter THAT much -- it's between worlds. Not quite jazz, but has jazzy voicings, and not quite modern classical either.

More worrying is the material itself seems wandering. The opening 20 seconds sound like "transitional" material
(Transitional is something I personally try and avoid. Who wants people saying "oh...look he's transitioning")

30" in the left hand is what first grabs me as thematic material.

You can make it work....... just it's a very short theme so you need to get some tricks up your sleeve for how to expand a kernal into a larger tapestry.

Look at the highpoint of the piece. We can visually see around 2:15 is the highpoint. It's pretty much the same shit I heard at :38. So at that point it's just one too many trips to the cookie jar I would say.

I think you need to look at pieces that really move you, and look at the Scheme/Structure/Strategy of them. Forget materials for now. How do they make, whatever it is they are on about work ?

Reminds me -- a little (more in it's gesture than it's materials) Prokofiev 7
