John Williams taken ill before London Concert

Discussion in 'The RedBanned Bar & Grill' started by Michael Antrum, Oct 24, 2018.

  1. Hi All,

I don't know if any of you are going to the John Williams concert at the Royal Albert Hall this Friday, but I've just been informed that John Williams has been taken ill in London, and will not longer be conducting his concert at the Royal Albert Hall this Friday evening. Apparently he is in hospital in London.

Whilst I do hope that he gets well very soon, I'm saddened that I won't get to see the man himself in action. He is getting on in years now, and I don't think I'll get another opportunity to see him in London again.

Sending my best wishes for a speedy recovery....

  2. Oh, I just saw this thread, I opened up another one, I was going to Vienna...Still am, but not to the concert - flight and hotel paid and non-refundable...My biggest musical hero, once in a lifetime chance to see him in person, gone. Apparently it's just a routine illness and he will be fine, but everyone in the matter is so sad and disappointed, just look at the threads on jwfan.com.

  3. Well, I just got back from the London concert, and whilst we were missing the man himself, the London Symphony Orchestra were giving it a large portion. I must admit to a couple of 'unmanly moments' during the course of the evening, in particular the Schindlers List theme - that solo violin broke my heart.

I haven't been to an orchestral concert since the back end of last year, and as soon as the concert started I remembered Mike's advice to go and hang around orchestra's to learn what they really sound like in real life.

After listening to samples all year, it's amazing how much my perspective had shifted. Smart guy that Mike.....

  4. I just saw John Williams last month at the Hollywood Bowl. David Newman conducted the first half and John Williams conducted the second half. Steven Spielberg was there as well and narrated various clips from Indiana Jones, ET, etc. As the films played on the big screen, the LA Philharmonic played the scores. The entire concert was just unbelievably beyond words. I still get emotional just thinking about it. I agree with Michael, after working with samples all year...this was film music at it's very best.

  5. The live stream was great, so much emotion. But here you go, Superman:

    and Jaws:

  6. It was a first time for me, not only William's music but a live orchestra as well. Or course just like everybody else I listened to the recordings like a billion times and I knew it would be a really good concert but I had no idea what I was going to walk into. Even without John himself, It was such emotional evening for me, I couldn't sleep a single minute last night. I left the theatre with my hearth filled with hope and dreams.
