1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Live Symphonic Brass - NOW AVAILABLE!

Discussion in 'Classes & Discussion' started by Mike Verta, Jan 24, 2018.

  1. Got my ticket! And we're close to the goal. Can't wait for the class. BTW, where will it take place? In a recording studio or at your home Mike?

  2. Not sure yet. My living room is 16 x 20 with an 18-foot ceiling, and is surprisingly live and good to record in. So we can totally do it here and there are advantages to that - we have all our camera gear here, and we know how to light the room, and we have the streaming backbone all built, and there's all the musician support stuff too. But we may also do it at The Village recording studio, which would simplify some of the audio logistics, but complicate the camera stuff and put a question mark on the quality of the live feed. We have a little time to work it out yet.

  3. Will the pre-show be part of the downloadable video? (I suppose then it would be just the show, rather than the pre-show, but thought I'd ask. :))

  4. No, if anything, pre-show would be some sort of "add-on" but otherwise not planning on it.

**EDIT: Actually, maybe that would nice to include. I mean, for $120... lemme think.

  5. You could do two versions, one with and one without the pre-show, with different prices. Just a little suggestion.

  6. I'm gutted to have just realized the date this lands on is March 17: St. Paddy's day!

I have a long St. Paddy's tradition with a group of about 20 friends of finding a suitable watering hole, starting mid afternoon, and getting utterly ruined.

My consolation prize is that I'll be able to make the pre-show. :)

  7. Does this mean that there’ll be green beer and shots of Irish whisky?

  8. I'm only 1/4th Irish, but count on that quarter being plastered.

I know... My cat does that everyday.

    Looks like a good room.

  15. Guys I deliberately didn't name the location so just keep it to yourself please.

  16. No worries Mike. Your whiskey reserve at your secret place is safe ;)

  17. Just curious, and ignore if this comment will kill the vibe, but looking at the picture of the very nice studio, and my knowing nothing about audio engineering:

Aren't you going to need diffusors or something, for preventing the sound bouncing everywhere. Or is this part of the recording people playing really quiet approach.

Don't know the studio, ever been there, but with Brass (or larger forces) it looks prone to a "salad bowl" effect.

Again, I know nothing of acoustic room treatment.

  18. I'm in for an Orchestra Seat. It'll be Sunday morning where I am so I won't be wearing green, but I will be imbibing Kirin beer from the pre-show on. woot.

  19. There are floor-to-ceiling dampening curtains on three of the walls and they bring all kinds of absorptive rugs and other panels when actually recording. There been several scores recorded in there - it's fine. And it looks great.
