No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

When I was growing up I used to listen to this soundtrack all the time and decided to take a shot at transcribing a bit of one of the tracks.

Can't quite get the same sound, not sure if it's an orchestration issue, a mixing issue or performance issue.

Let me know what you all think.

P.S I've just realised I may have posted this on the wrong part of the forum and can't seem to find the delete button to move it. Whoops

  2. I think the main issue is in the low end, both on percussion and on the strings. Can't almost hear it.
In the first bars, are you using trombones? I think they are horns.
From 0:08 I don't hear the cellos behind the trombones.
    Hope that helps

  3. Yeah, I definitely feel the low end is lacking. Mixing is a large weak spot for me, wasn't sure if maybe I was missing something in the orchestration or it was just a bad mix.

I initially thought they were horns as well, but at 0:20 the sound of the instrument changes completely like they are further away and wider, so I came to the conclusion that 0:20 was horns since they point towards the wall which is what gives them that sound and earlier on had to be the trombones.

Maybe one day I'll be able to get out a good mix haha. Thanks for your feedback!

  4. From an orchestrational point of view, maybe we can help more if you write the score, because from your mockup I may say you are missing the bass drum but maybe you are not and it just a mixing issue.

  5. I'm a bit slow when it comes to writing music down, but it will be good practice. I'll work on that.

  6. One of my favourite TV soundtracks. Has Andy Price ever made the score available?

  7. Not as far as I'm aware, however, I'm going to try and try my luck and e-mail him (he has a link on his website) let him hear what I've done so far and maybe see if he'll let me take a look. He can only say no.

Ha I was just about to email him! I'll leave it to you.

  9. Did you get a response?

  10. Nothing yet, there's a chance he'll not read or respond but we'll see.

  11. Got a response from him!

"Hi Duncan - thanks so much for the email and your very kind words regarding the Robin Hood score. I'm really proud of it and so glad it continues to entertain and inspire even after 14 years!

Your transcription sounds terrific. Really close to the original.

    Keep up the good work!

Stay well and thanks again for getting in touch.

    Andy"

No score though to see just how close I got but still chuffed.

  12. That's great. Always nice to get feedback from the composer. Shame about the score though. I started mocking up the main title theme about 5 years ago but got distracted and put it aside. I might try and finish it before the end of the year if I get some free time.
