1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Jon Peros - Sound Localization

Discussion in 'Template Balancing' started by Travis Morgan, Nov 13, 2019.

  1. ^This is a fantastic short video that a friend of a friend uploaded awhile back on sound localization. Goes a bit more in-depth about haas delays and early reflections. I'm kinda sorta using a middle-ground of stuff I've learned from Mike's class and from this video for my template. Thought some of you might like to see it.

  2. Very interesting! Is this module available anywhere?

  3. Not to my knowledge, but you could email him and ask!

  4. Nice presentation of localization basics and cool Reactor program. Still, no matter how hard we work to recreate localization, the sound is still only coming from only two speakers. The first time I heard a good surround recording playback, it absolutely ruined any sense of reality from stereo speakers from that point. Yet, the flip side is that working with surround requires significant processing power, complex mix management, and higher cost of a good setup. Enough obstacles that make it prohibitive for 99% of the creators and 80% of the listeners. Still, while a basic 5.1 setup is limited to 5.1 speakers, it CAN (but not the way its typically used - music front, fx front/rear) provide a dramatic sound improvement over stereo. So its a bit like unobtainium, nice if you have it, but hard to get. I think I would be a happier person if I never heard that amazing surround demo.
