Nice theme, I don't have any feedback on theme its self. It's recognizable through the whole piece and I feel you established it quite nice in the beginning so "us" the listeners are able to follow it.

I think what you can work on though (which everyone here can always work on) is development. Even as simple as just little variations with your theme to really diving deep into an actual developmental section.

For one example at 1:20 you bring back your theme. We basically know your theme here, especially because it's only been 1:20 and that your theme is not hard to follow I think you can vary a note or two here to give us some unpredictability so it's not so cut and dry for us. One suggestion is at 1:29 that note, instead of coming down to G# why not go up to B then down to G# to E, give that variation? Just little variations like that which you can then use as a pivot to lead us into a new section or development.

1:45ish is cool because you're giving us contrast. I wish you expanded on this and gave us more instead of just using your theme in a darker tone. Which is fine, but if you made this darker contrast another 2 minutes and somewhere in those 2 minutes you did exactly what you did here I wouldn't of minded. But because this is a short piece and I pretty much can hum your melody back to you by this time, and without variations there (not counting orchestration as a variation) I start to get bored.

So great job, in the end, nice theme. You set up patterns and had some contrast. Just focus on in the future pieces (since this is 2 years old) on adding in those unpredictable parts and more development when we start to get fatigued of your melody. Which is really hard to judge yourself so of course use us Redbanners to point out when you're too predictable.

Your theme is clear, your orchestration is dynamically varied, and the flow from section to section is natural. The only obvious negative I can spot is that you have been tight on the melodic content and relied on orchestration for keeping us interested. It kind of works for this track length but not many seconds longer...
Overall, I think it is a good mock up to advertise your composition and orchestration skills. If you want it to be a deliverable track, I think your samples are letting you down at times. The 2-note ostinati violin accompaniment which is prominent at the beginning and end of the track is particularly synthetic sounding.

I totally get that. I kind of hate doing them now after I've already composed. I love experimenting and writing sample/electronic-oriented stuff (so much to experiment with), but mockups aren't fun anymore.

 

I like the track and the orchestration. I am thinking you were after a "Disney" vibe, and if so you did well. There is a young composer, Chirstopher Siu, who works in a similar style. He has a bunch of YouTube videos and is quite generous in sharing his techniques and methods. Here is an example of one of his pieces.

I was intrigued by your comment that "some music companies and recording studios offer this service alone these days." Do you mean the service of creating a mock-up? I am a hobbyist, so I do not stay as well informed as I would like. Please elaborate on these services of which you speak.
