Hedonism (A Seedy Deeds Production)

Discussion in 'Critique & Feedback' started by Doug Gibson, Oct 15, 2017.

  1. While my main love will always be classical music, occasionally I have delusions of wrecking my like.
I fantasize about getting a bass, some bell bottoms, a funk big band. My everyday would revolve around sex, doing drugs, and playing bass.

I'll use this thread for any music I write that sounds like porn, smoking weed, snorting cocaine, and breaking the law/running from the cops.

The first one up is "The mustache makes my pants fit... REALLY NICE" from my up-coming album

"I'm here to clean your pool"

(* I really did not have the time to finish it, and not sure I ever will)

  2. Hej Doug,
You sound like how I felt yesterday night like! lol. However it is nice track, the vibe is definitely there. Productionwise I would let that sound be more gritty and not that pristine like in your example. The production should a bit reflect the vibe and mood imo. Maybe I would use less reverb on some of instruments? Also a bit high-cuts on some of the instruments, like that hi - hat? Then you need less reverb and it still sits in the mix and has a sense of ditance but still feels close? But I know you are not the technical person so much and so I leave that to your mixing engineers...;)

  3. I was going to put that in as a disclaimer. It's just a Sibelius playback. No production at all. I know I am the only one, but I like the imperfection of the playback for my psychology. Since it does not sound real, or good at all, I either A) get serious and record it with real musicians, or B) Know I am just working on the writing side and not spending my time with samples. Yes, I would 100% outsource the mock-up. This is just me fucking around during the daytime.

  4. That actually sounds pretty good for Sibelius playback.

And man, that title nails it. "What pool?" :D

  5. Ok..... well you remember that Gypsy piece I transcribed last week ?

I thought it might make a good big band chart. I have used that piece as the basis. (You can hear the original in the other thread)

This is very much a work in progress. Any suggestion for improving.... much appreciated !

Let me know if it is sounding "Latin- super sexy" yet. I don't think it is. It's on the road, but needs help. Not totally sure what.

(In spanish voice) I call this ...... Bad Hombre's

For the record, I have no clue what's he saying.

I'm getting a kind of a tavern vibe here. Gotta have your claps and wooden floor stomps. Still missing about 10 bad hombres shouting "Hey" on off-beats in the end there; samples have let me down in this case. Great stuff :D

  7. Wow man ! Far out. That was great.

We'll have to do something like the techno guys, where I give you the track to re-mix.

    @Aaron Venture

You got me hooked. I must say..... your voice sounds a lot different than I imagined from your profile photo. :)

You inspired me to write another section. I got up to where there will be a solo, and have NOT had a chance yet to fill in some holes.
The piano only part at the end is going to be a solo.

I like the new section. I'll have to send over when it's done for you to give it that "Desperado" feel. Loving it.
We can then send to Sensei for Unleashed 4. That way it's something "serious" that we have our heart and soul into. :)

  9. Hah. I like the new section too! I'm running out of bad hombre rap samples, though. I have some bad muchachas, maybe it can be a duet? I also think it's time for a barfight, but I hear you've already written that it. Nice.

    I'm sure he'll be rather thrilled :D

  10. This is great, all of it!

I am almost embarassed to admit it, but that sibellius export had me fooled. It's only because I know you work in Sib @Doug Gibson that I was able to hear some of the sampling. I guess the other major factor is that I rarely, if ever, listen to this type of music so I'm not really familiar with what it's "supposed" to sound like.

Strangely, when I saw the vimeo video I was better able to hear the samples (possibly because I was able to read what instruments were playing).

All that said, these tracks were all very funky and fun to listen to! Great job!

EDIT: god damnit now I really want your signature.

is that you in the gif ? I see the studio speakers and it looks like the room is Audio-philed out. A little similarity between the profile photo...... not much, but some
Also if anyone was epic enough to "gif" themselves it would most likely be you.

So, I was thinking I could whip out the final version over the weekend, and send to you to load int he punch. Then we can treat it like a "hedge-fund" and load it up with the "poorest taste" stuff possible to send over to Sensei's Unleashed.

He most likely never even reads half these threads so he'll have no idea. Too, bad it won't be 4 am. It would be great to create an existential crisis.

    Something even tackier than this:

    He'll have no idea.

  12. That's just Stefan from Dada Life (short bio: two guys doing electronic music and spilling champagne and throwing bananas into the crowd, all the while giving free tickets for their concerts to all who come in a full body banana outfit). This is from some video from ages ago, but I remember laughing my ass off when I first saw it and it stuck with me. This was somehow my first reaction to your piece, so I had to seek it out and post it :D

    Sounds good.

    I LOVE IT.

I'm actually 99% sure he does read everything - this isn't a very crowded place, it's very easy to keep an eye on everything. He might just come and comment here, thus eliminating us from the lot! So it's either a gamble on that, or we piss of our eager audience by not posting until Unleashed.

  13. They are still out there !

Finished the form of the piece, have some ideas for extra details. Hey, Amigo Aaron: add your magic whenever you are inspired to do so.

  14. Hah, nice! Send over an mp3 (so it can be at least half-decent :D) when you're done. It'll be done before the show!

  15. Sure, but upon reading your other thread, it has made me hope that it would not in any way take the place of someone actually wanting honest feedback on a piece. This piece is a joke. Like the Pool Boy porn music the only goal is to make myself smile. While I am sure Sensei's comments are illuminating, I have no
need. I am in the "dad-bod" - middle age asshole phase of my composing career. You know.... I like to pour too much gasoline on the fire, put too much ranch on my chicken, drink before noon, write music that I wanna write, and everyone else can go fuck themselves. At least that is how I feel today. Tomorrow I may wake up sobbing in the fetal position wondering why no one loves me...... but alas. ....a story for another day................

    ¡Arriba, arriba! ¡Ándale, ándale! fellas

  16. Fair enough. I'm still game for finishing it. You know, for the portfolio.

Then you can add "Teaching Flamenco" to your website, I'm sure there would be some interest!

  17. @Doug Gibson @Aaron Venture - This is awesome. All you guys need to do now is make a really seedy music video, with some stupidly hot flamenco dancers and you'll have yourselves a viral video and possibly the theme to a new Telemundo series!

Ha ! Yes, that will make people listen to almost anything. In fact I am pretty sure Kid Rock owes his entire career to strip clubs. No matter what gets played it will sound like a genius wrote it.

Here is the final version with Aaron singing over it.

I'll have to ponder what is next for "HEDONISM". The criteria is

"sounds like porn, smoking weed, snorting cocaine, and breaking the law/running from the cops."

    Hmm.................... ?????????????????????????????
